The purpose of the Eastern Sierra Connect Regional Broadband Consortium is to promote widespread broadband deployment and to promote its advanced adoption in areas of our region where Internet is currently either unavailable or too expensive. We accomplish this mission by:
Helping identify communities in need of broadband;
Encouraging providers and local organizations to deploy appropriate and affordable technology to connect communities;
Promoting broadband access and adoption through workshops for residents and businesses in Mono, Inyo and Eastern Kern counties.
The Consortium was formed to leverage regional, state and national resources as an investment in improving and expanding broadband access in Eastern Sierra. ESCRBC is funded out of the California Advanced Services Fund (CASF) to launch public-private partnerships aimed at increasing digital access and use in Mono, Inyo and eastern Kern counties. ESCRBC is one of 14 regional consortia in the State of California. The project is supported by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and is run by the Desert Mountain Resource Conservation and Development Council (RC&D).
ESCRBC requested and received CASF consortia funding of $150,000 in Year 1 with intention to renew Years 2 and 3 for $150,000 each. In total, the Eastern Sierra Connect Regional Broadband Consortia requested the maximum funding of $450,000 in the Eastern Sierra region.
