From a very early age, I have had a love for cooking and baking. My Mother (Idy) was a southern belle who loved to cook and made mealtimes a special time in our home. She was very encouraging and allowed me to cook at anytime in her kitchen. My first cooking experience was to make cookies when I was in the third grade. As a I grew older, I loved to try different types of foods and recipes, and began learning new cooking and baking techniques as a teenager.

A graduate for Pt. Loma Nazarene University, I began my career in teaching for the Los Angeles School District, and I have taught just about every grade from Kindergarten to Jr. High and High School choirs. however, my love for cooking continued and i often catered for church, school and community functions. Of course, I have also baked cakes for family and friends for birthdays, weddings, showers and other special events.

After retiring from teaching, my niece and I opened Idy's Restaurant in Tehachapi where I daily made all the desserts and rolls, made cinnamon rolls on the weekends. After selling the restaurant, I opened my own bakery, Linda's Cakes 'n Things and quickly outgrew the small building on Tehachapi Blvd. and went into partnership opening the Tehachapi Culinary Studio.

At the Studio, I helped with catering and continued to bake all kinds of desserts and cakes but the hectic pace of larger catering jobs began to be too much. So thanks to the Home Cottage Law passed by California legislators in January 2013,  I am now enjoying a more relaxed environment where I can teach my classes and bake all my cakes, desserts, cupcakes, pies, specialty cookies and candies from home.

I have studied many outstanding cake artist including Kerry Vincent, who often judges cake competitions on  Food Network; Ron Ben-Israel of Ron Ben-Israel Cakes in New York City; and Bronwen Weber, a very popular cake artist from Texas who is often seen in cake competitions on Food Network. I have also taken classes at The Gourmandise School of Sweets and Savories located in Santa Monica, California where I am expanding my skills in various cakes, caramel confections, chocolate making and the newest craze in the bakery world, French macaroons. I love taking these classes because I not only learn about baking, but I get to meet many wonderful people from all over the country who share the same love of baking.

I enjoy creating special desserts for all occasions and believe that it is my way of making others happy and sharing some of the beautiful things in the world.
